A helicopter carrying Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was checked by election officials in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiris on Monday, sources told India Today TV. The flying squad officials searched the helicopter after it landed in the Nilgiris, police said.

Sources in the poll panel said that Rahul Gandhi’s helicopter search was a part of standard instructions to ensure free and fair elections.
“Checking/ search of helicopters (Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Trinamool leader Abhishek Banerjee) is part of standard instructions to ensure inducement -free polls, which has led to huge amount of seizures in the current elections,” sources said.

“In the run-up to the polls, all DMs/SPs/enforcement agencies were told to keep a strict watch on airfields/helipads by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Such searches are taking place in airfields, both public and private, across the country to ensure inducements are not ferried by air,” they added.
The incident occurred while Rahul Gandhi was on his way to Wayanad, his Lok Sabha constituency, in Kerala, where he had a slew of campaign activities, including a roadshow and a public meeting.
Rahul Gandhi won from Wayanad in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. He is now seeking a successive term for the seat.
